April is Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month and we fully support that cause here in the Raider Library
On Tuesday April 12th, we had a visit from animal rescuer and author Kelly Shoup. Kelly contributed to the book Rescued: The Stories of 12 Cats, Through Their Eyes. She shared the sad story of Lucky, a cat she rescued that was a victim of extreme abuse. Kelly also brought a group of adorable foster kittens that won the hearts of every library visitor that morning. Check out these photos of the event:
We have more animal fun coming to the school next week! On Monday, April 25th we will be visited by a local service dog organization, Semper K9. Semper K9's Executive Director Christopher Baity is an OEF/OIF veteran Marine Corps dog trainer and kennel master with three combat deployments, one civilian deployment and two additional overseas deployments with working dogs. We are very excited to meet him!
On Wednesday, April 27th we will be visited by a Prince William Animal Control Officer and the PWSPCA. Students will learn more about pet care, shelter adoptions, and preventing animal cruelty. Students will also get to tour the PAW Express mobile adoption van and see home furry friends in need of a forever home. The PWSPCA will leave SJHS with all of the donated items from the Raider Library's pet supply drive this month.
To contribute to the pet supply drive, students can stop by the library during any lunch period this week, April 19th-22nd, to make an upcycled dog toy out of t-shirts.
